At the begging you can think that the place is a little bit strange, it's a small place and the owner is an amazing women. The food is really nice and the price it's good. Trust her and you will get a great experience

Outstanding hospitality! Nice cozy tavern for around 4 tables. Great to have a stop there for a lunch. Best fresh orange juice I ever tried, and great summer compliment such as enormous portion of watermelon :)

My wife and I were looking for an authentic Cretan restaurant to try traditional cuisine. What we found at the Ancient Gortyna tavern was an experience that went far beyond sampling food. The food was homemade, fresh, flavourful, and was absolutely delicious (and very reasonably priced). We sat for several hours enjoying what seemed to be a 5-6 course meal and took in the sunset and the scenery of the adjacent ancient ruins. The food is enough to give the Ancient Gortyna tavern a 5* rating, but what brought us back again was the family that owns and runs the tavern. I mentioned above that we had an experience, the owners are warm and loving and made us feel like one of the family. We really appreciated the owners showing us how to enjoy their food as they do, from their family's own pressed olive oil, to fruit picked from their trees, to the family's homemade liqueurs and raki, and the surprise deserts. After spending 2 weeks in Greece, our time at the tavern is one of our most cherished memories from the trip. This is one of the best experiences we've had in any restaurant around the world, and we are very fortunate to have travelled all around the globe. Please do yourselves a favour and spend an evening with this family.

Fantastic place for an amazing lunch. Right next to some archaeology. Perfect for after a visit to Gortyna.

My husband and I had a delicious lunch here last August 2020. The food and wine were fresh and local and delicious. Sylvia looked after us beautifully, she even gave me a cutting of a pretty pelargonium I was admiring. It is a very charming little place.

Fabulous small taverna. If visiting the history in the are it’s a good idea to come here for food and drink. The lady owner speaks good English. Home cooked food and home produced olive oil. Good value prices and tasty food .?Also some interesting ruins right next door.

When you visit the archeological Site of Gortyna and want something to eat afterwards, you should really try this small pearl in the neighborhood. Very good traditional Greek food the way it should be made. And the welcome you get is great, we were really spoiled. Thanks ?
