Still not open. But nice road and traffic lights. A pity the extend of work was limited to around a 100m perimeter of the gate.

It looks lovely, but is closed for construction. This information is not listed online. A waste of my travel time from Heraklion. I am very disappointed as I really wanted to see their collection.

It is currently early days for this new museum project. They have a lovely space & the current exhibition on the seafaring activities of the bronze age Aegean is full of interesting information but little in the way of ancient artifacts. There are several models of boats and of the terrain round minoan ports. Also lots of text panels explaining everything from the manufacture of boats to the impact of Aegean weather patterns on trade routes. Sadly 90% of the text is only available in Greek, with brief English summaries. If, like me, your Greek can't cope explore using google translate with the instant camera mode & you will get some idea, if you have the patience! These issues undermine the experience, but the subject is full of interest for those with persistence - and the exhibition is free of charge. So drop in if you are passing or deeply interested.

These images are from the debut opening of the new Archaeological Museum of Mesara. The stunning “Islands of the Winds” exhibition, which projects to visitors the full extent of the nautical culture of the prehistoric Aegean, is but a preview of the remarkable traveling and permanent exhibitions to come. For anyone interested in the mysterious Minoan Civilization, this new museum is a must see.
