Very rude staff, very creepy place. As we missed our flight and were late they gave our room to someone else (we called the number provided by expedia and was told reception was closed and to call the next day and they hung up, we were on flights so couldn't. They also didn't have an email) The guy we spoke to changed his story multiple times about what time he called me and said we didn't call the first time even though I have a call log. spoken to a few locals who said the place hasn't been renovated in 10 years, stories of cockroaches crawling on people's faces... Would give a 0 if I could. Everyone else in crete was very nice and accommodating in contrast to this place.

Captain Vasilis Hotel confirmed our reservation on 24 March 2019 (more than 3 months ago). Since we had no news regarding payment information, we sent 2 reminder emails and called them once (just to be safe). During this call, they reconfirmed our reservation. Now they are informing us that there is no available room - without any apology. It’s a shame how they treat customers ! We’ve never seen this before. We are appalled by their blatant disregard for customers and lack of professionalism.

Small, quaint hotel in a fantastic location with really friendly staff. My room (number 7) was a single room and it was tiny. In fact, as you can see from the photos it resembled a prison cell complete with whitewashed walls. Joking aside, I woke in the morning to find a big puddle on the floor. Either the fridge or air conditioning unit had leaked. And it had leaked onto my rucksack! Apart from that it was fine...just make sure you get a better room than room 7!

Best place to explore Chania and surroundings and have a dinner in the croudy port. Even on the top of restaurant you feel quite quite in the nights. Wonderfull view, easy access to every bar and food place amazing sunrise. What else...?

Definitely highlight of our stay on Crete. Chania itself is beautiful and staying at Captain's Vasilis has made our experience even more enjoyable. Lovely room with the port and sea view - you could see the Egyptian lighthouse and whole port from your very own balcony as well as from patio/terrace on the last floor. Room was stylish with wooden and stone decorative elements and comfy, big bed. Breakfast was served by the owner himself, all you need to start the day. Good recommendations where to eat and go in Chania and in the region. We highly recommend this place.

We stayed 4 nights at Captain Vasilis in April. The hotel is located in the perfect location for exploring the Old Town of Chania and its fantastic restaurants. This hotel is full of traditional charm and character, our balcony room was generous and had an great walk-in shower and super comfy bed. There is also a lovely sunny roof terrace with sun chairs. The current manager ('the' Captain Vasilis' grandson) was an excellent host, the breakfast was lovely complete with homemade preserves. If you are looking for a traditional old-style hotel then you won't be disappointed with Captain Vasilis - I hope to return soon.
