★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο ξεχασμένος κάστελος των Κορνάρων ή αλλιώς φρούριο της Παλιόχωρας. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, το έκτισε ο Νικηφόρος Φωκάς μετά την απελευθέρωση της Κρήτης από τους Άραβες το 961 μΧ. Επί Ενετοκρατίας ήταν έδρα φέουδου και ανήκε στην οικογένεια των Κορνάρων (Corner), που ήταν οι γαιοκτήμονες της περιοχής. Η κατάσταση του είναι μέτρια, παρά τα έργα αναστήλωσης που έγιναν προ εικοσαετίας στο δυτικό τείχος. Αξίζει ωστόσο μια επίσκεψη, τόσο για τη θέα όσο και για να επισκεφθείτε την παρακείμενη βυζαντινή εκκλησία της Ζωοδόχου Πηγής, αλλά και τα μινωικά λαξευτα πατητήρια στο απέναντι λοφάκι (λίγο πριν και αριστερά καθώς προσεγγίζουμε τον κάστελο)
The forgotten castle of the Cornara or otherwise the fortress of Paleochora. According to tradition, Nikiforos Fokas built it after the liberation of Crete from the Arabs in 961 AD. During the Venetian occupation it was a feudal seat and belonged to the Corner family, who were the landowners of the area. Its condition is modest, despite 20 years of restoration work on the west wall. Still worth a visit, both for sightseeing and for visiting the nearby Byzantine church of Zoodochos Pigi, as well as the Minoan carvings on the opposite hill (just before and left as we approach the castle)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tak to je neuvěřitelné najít proto je to tak ojedinělé místo. Je blyzka vzdálenost od hlavni cesty ale špatně dostupné vhodné pro pěkný piknik. Mně to splnilo očekávání.
So it's unbelievable to find that's why it's such a unique place. It is a short distance from the main road but hard to reach suitable for a nice picnic. It met my expectations.
