Es wird angenommen, dass es sich bei diesen Ruinen um eine Befestigung byzantinischen Ursprungs aus dem 14. Jahrhundert handelt und gleichzeitig dienen diese Überreste auch als Beweis für die ursprüngliche Lage der historischen Siedlung Agios Nikolaos, die sich zuvor in direkter Küstennähe befunden haben soll und deren Einwohner nach Piratenüberfällen weiter ins Inland gezogen sind. Da Piratenangriffe zu dieser Zeit Gebiete in ganz Chalkidiki betrafen, sahen sich die Bewohner veranlasst, verschiedene küstennahe Dörfer zu verlassen, um sich in höher gelegenen Regionen neu anzusiedeln. Einer anderen Quelle zur Folge handelt es sich bei diesen Ruinen um die Überreste eines Klosters. Unabhängig von der Geschichte ist dies ein interessanter Platz um auf den Spuren längst vergangener Zeiten zu wandeln und Einblicke in die alte Bauweise zu erhalten. The ruins of the tower are located on the Pyrgos beach of the same name (Pyrgos, Greek πύργος, tower) near Ormos Panagias. It is believed that these ruins are a byzantine fortification from the 14th century and at the same time these remains serve as evidence of the original location of the historical settlement of Agios Nikolaos, which is said to have been in direct proximity to the coast before Residents moved further inland after pirate attacks. Since pirate attacks affected areas all over Chalkidiki at this time, the residents were forced to leave various coastal villages in order to settle in higher regions. According to another source, these ruins are the remains of a monastery. Regardless of the history, this is an interesting place to walk in the footsteps of times long past and to gain insights into the old construction methods.
