A	Andreas Farkonas on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Κοντά στο χωριό Μέση, στα βορειοανατολικά της νήσου Νάξος, σε αρκετά δύσβατη τοποθεσία, βρίσκεται ένα από τα ομορφότερα σπήλαια ολόκληρης της Νάξου...και φυσικά άγνωστο στο ευρύ κοινό, ακόμα και στην τοπική κοινωνία του νησιού! Η προέλευση της ονομασίας του σπηλαίου, Δρακοντόσπηλο, χάνεται στα άγνωστα βάθη του χρόνου. Όσες φορές και να ρωτήσαμε τους ντόποιους κανείς δεν γνώριζε. Τελικά καταλήξαμε στο συμπέρασμα πως πολλά σπήλαια αλλά και μεγαλιθικά κτίσματα(δρακόσπιτα) της Ελλάδας έχουν παρόμοιες ονομασίες, δηλαδη, Δρακοντόσπηλο= (δράκος+σπηλιά), Δρακόσπιτο=(δράκος+σπίτι). Τα πιθανότερα σενάρια είναι δύο. Είτε πρόκειται για τις κατοικίες των τελευταίων μεγάλων θηρίων του ελλαδικού χώρου, λιοντάρια, ύαινες, τίγρεις κ.α είτε απλά το πρόθεμα δρακο-, που είναι και η πιθανότερη εκδοχή, αποτελεί ένδειξη μεγαλοπρέπειας, μεγάλης έκτασης της κατασκευής(τεχνητής ή μη) αλλά και δέους. Near the village of Mesi, in the northeast of the island of Naxos, in a rather inaccessible location, is one of the most beautiful caves in the whole of Naxos ... and of course unknown to the general public, even to the local community of the island! The origin of the name of the cave, Drakontospilo, is lost in the unknown depths of time. No matter how many times we asked the locals, no one knew. Finally we came to the conclusion that many caves and megalithic buildings (dragon houses) in Greece have similar names, that is, Dragon Cave = (dragon + cave), Drakospito = (dragon + house). There are two possible scenarios. Whether it is the houses of the last great beasts of Greece, lions, hyenas, tigers, etc. or just the prefix dragon-, which is the most likely version, is a sign of grandeur, large area of construction (artificial or not) but also awe.
