★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The church of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul used to be the main church (aka the “katholikon”) of the Kleinovos abbey or monastery. The abbey is 2 km away from the small village Kleinovos (aka Kleinos) and to the North-East of the village, on the “Tringía” mountain (of the Pindos range), at an altitude of 3,806 ft (1,160 m).
The architectural type of the church is Athonite with a cross-in-square plan, lateral choirs and a double-domed narthex (in addition to the church’s main dome).
Wall paintings cover the interior of the church throughout and they began being created in the 1780s. There is a trilingual inscription at the entrance of the church.
The dimensions of the 26.5 ft (8.07m)-high church are 39.4 × 23 ft (12 × 7 m).
