★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the remote, lesser-known abbeys in Meteora, Greece—the Hypapantē monastery (abbey). It is located on the northwesternmost group of the Meteora rock formations.
Hypapantē is the Greek word for “Candlemas,” i.e. the church festival in honor of the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:22–38). The Hypapantē abbey was in the distant past also known as The Ascension, according to a 1367 inscription above the entrance to the “katholikon” (the abbey’s main church, a basilica with a cross-shaped roof).
The abbey is nested within the rock formation at a height of 230 ft (70 m) above ground. It was deserted in c.1809, then ruined. It was destroyed by fire on 1809 on a local Ottoman bully’s instructions (based in Ioannina).
Stairs were carved on the rock in 1930. Maintenance and restoration took place in 1995-2000.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You can only see the monastery from outside/the bottom. Stairs leading up to the monetary are closed, it's not possible to enter.
Road towards the monastery is only partially paved, but any car can make it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Coming from the great Meteora monastery it's just nice to escape the crowds and the views from behind the boulders is just awesome as well. It takes about 20 minutes to get there just follow the path starting above the parking lot. Look at the satellite mode of maps you really can't miss it.
