Ευτυχώς όμως διατηρείται σε πολύ καλή και πολιτισμένη κατάσταση. A monument of great historic value to our country. I think it could be more important. Fortunately, it is kept in a very good and civilized state.

This is the place where Georgios Karaiskakis was killed. It's nothing special, but at least it's clean and people respect it.

Το επεισόδιο πυροδοτήθηκε λίγο άσκοπα από κάποιους μεθυσμένους κρητικούς (αν θυμάμαι καλά στις 22/4/1827) στην οποία αναγκάστηκε να πάρει μέρος και ο άρρωστος με πυρετό Καραϊσκάκης, παραμονές του Αγίου Γεωργίου (της εορτής του). Κατά την συμπλοκή τον πέτυχε ένα βόλι, από το οποίο τραυματίστηκε σοβαρά και μεταφέρθηκε στο νοσοκομείο. Εκεί κατάλαβε ότι είχε έρθει το τέλος. Συνέταξε την διαθήκη του, κοινώνησε των Αχράντων Μυστηρίων και την άλλη μέρα (23/4/1827), ανήμερα της εορτής του, παρέδωσε το πνεύμα του στον Δημιουργό. Ήταν μόλις 45 ετών (1782-1827). Η σωρός του θάφτηκε στον Ι.Ν. Αγίου Δημητρίου Σαλαμίνας όπως ήταν η επιθυμία του. Μετά από χρόνια πραγματοποιήθηκε η εκταφή του και τα οστά του μεταφέρθηκαν στο εν λόγω μνημείο. Ας αναπαυτούν τα ηρωικά του κόκαλα και ας τον τάξει ο Κύριος εκεί που αρμόζει σ' έναν άνθρωπο που μας έδωσε το δικαίωμα να ζούμε ελεύθερα και να λατρεύουμε τον Θεό μας χωρίς εξωτερικές απειλές και πιέσεις. Δίπλα ακριβώς βρίσκεται και το ομώνυμο γήπεδο Καραϊσκάκη μέσω του οποίου αποδίδεται τιμή και σεβασμός στη μνήμη του. It is the point where General Georgios Karaiskakis was injured, after a skirmish with the Turks. The episode was fired a little unnecessarily by some drunken Cretans (if I remember correctly on 22/4/1827) in which the patient with fever Karaiskakis was forced to take part, on the eve of Agios Georgios (his feast). During the fight, he was hit by a bullet, from which he was seriously injured and was taken to hospital. There he realized that the end had come. He wrote his will, communed with the Achrant Mysteries and the next day (23/4/1827), on the day of his feast, he surrendered his spirit to the Creator. He was only 45 years old (1782-1827). His body was buried in I.N. Agios Dimitrios of Salamis as he wished. Years later he was exhumed and his bones were transferred to the monument. Let his heroic bones rest and let the Lord place him where he belongs to a man who gave us the right to live freely and worship our God without external threats and pressures. Right next door is the eponymous Karaiskaki stadium through which honor and respect are paid to his memory.
