Se poate ajunge cu masina pana la plaja. Panorama frumoasa spre plaja si muntele cu cave . Intrarea la cave, morminte romane, este intre 10 si 18, ultima intrare la 17:30. 4 e/adult si 2e/copil. Mancarea la taverne este buna, la preturi accesibile. Matala 1.07.2020 Beach with black and gray sand. Large parking near the beach at 2 e. Taverns and many souvenir shops. Beach for young people. You can drive to the beach. Beautiful panorama to the beach and the mountain with caves. The entrance to the cellars, Roman tombs, is between 10 and 18, the last entrance at 17:30. 4 e / adult and 2e / child. The food at the taverns is good, at affordable prices.

E' situata a sud di Heraklion (mar Libico) a distanza di 15 Km circa da Moires. Matala offre tutto ciò che un turista/viaggiatore può chiedere: supermercato, locali di ogni tipo, ristoranti, trattorie, bar, alberghi, pensioni, ecc... Ma il suo punto forte è la montagna con le grotte che ai tempi preistorici ma anche romani successivamente fungevano da tombe. La cucina Cretese è la madre delle cucine mediterranee ed è davvero squisita! Nei vari ristorantini sparsi per il paesino si possono gustare piatti tipici della cucina cretese. Ovviamente non mancano le girosterie per gli amanti del gyros / spiedino di carne (souvlaki). Il mare ed il sole di Creta non ha bisogno di presentazioni! Ovviamente preferisco visitare Matala prima o subito dopo i consueti 2 mesi turistici (Luglio ed Agosto) durante i quali rischio di incontrare mezza Italia e una buona fetta dell'Europa.... Am Strand gibt es mehrere Bars, Cafés, einen Kinderspielplatz. Parkplatz, Liegen und Schirm gegen Gebühr, öffentliche Toilette gratis. Dazu ist die Besichtigung des Roman Cemetary möglich, kostet Eintritt. Von hier kann man auch zum Red Beach laufen.
