Motive Rental - Pl. 1866 28

The car we rented was very clean, in mint condition and the lady who dealt with us was very kind and friendly. It’s also a family run business so they really do take care of their customers! Recommended place!

Caution! It’s a scam! Don’t rent at Motive! We had arranged the booking from our home country and in the beginning  everything seemed fine. So we decided  to extend the rent for two more weeks. We were asked to transfer the money to their account, so we did (and had done before) but then the problems started. They claimed the money had not made it on their account and they started to become very pushy, insisting that we would have to come to their "office" (not the official one but a nut shop in chania) immediately ("NOW") and pay the money (again) in cash. Even after we had sent them a money transfer confirmation of our bank, they stayed very pushy and  kind of threatened us that we would have to return the car immediately if we didn’t pay cash, even though the rental period of our first booking (the one we had payed for from home) was not over and the rental extension had not even begun. Because of them sending us messages almost every day and ruining our holidays, we ended up paying (again) cash in Chania (in the nut shop Pl. 1866 28, Chania 731 36), hoping for our bank to get back the transferred money (what unfortunately didn’t work because the greek bank refused to do so). So Motive Rental still owe us 330€ and of course don’t answer to any form of contact. Greece used to be famous for its hospitality, security and honesty. What a shame that black sheep pull this reputation through the dirt! Legal steps will be taken. Update 5.10.2020 in response to motives answer: 1) Thanks for finally confirming officially, that you did receive and withheld our moneytransfer - that makes it a lot easier for our legal insurance. 2) Yes, someone crashed into our parked car at Chania Botanical Gardens, I've just uploaded the police report, that says it was not our fault. We still have the contacts of these other tourists involved in this accident and I'm sure they will confirm our view. 3) I've just uploaded your confirmation via mail on 5 july 2020, that our rental is full insurance WITHOUT EXCESS Update 13.10.2020: Still no answer from motive and of course we haven't got our money back yet. Instead new over-enthisiastic reviews keep pushing their rating up again... Thanks Demi R for commenting on the parking crash! Update 4.11.2020: Still no answer, still haven't got any money back... Update 8.3.2021: Same same...

Very untrustworthy company! I would like to tell my side of the story in reply to the review of Don Dada (see down below). My friend and I rented a car at a different rental company and accidentally bumped into a parked rental car of Motive Rental (rented by Don). We contacted our own company, who immediately accepted to cover all the costs. However, Motive Cars was not cooperating at all. They were very rude to us and to my rental company and insisted on calling the police. This all took us hours. Eventually a police report was filed confirming the accident was indeed OUR fault, not Don's fault in any way. Also, we both had full insurance. So like promised before, my company would cover the costs of all the damage. But now Motive Rental is claiming Don crashed his car and that he denied to pay the costs of the damage (see reply to Don Dada). This is a straight up lie. I still have a photo of the police report, in case Motive Rental still plans on withholding Don's money.

The process of renting the vehicle was smooth and the car itself was clean and functional. The issue was that at the time we paid the €45 for rental we also paid a €300 deposit that we were assured we would receive back within 15 days. This has not occurred - it’s been a month and the deposit has not been returned. Motive has said that the issue is not with them but instead lies with the bank as Motive claim to have authorised the return of the deposit and it is the bank that has not actioned this. The end result is the same though: we have not received back the deposit and have received no assurance on if we will/when we will receive it back. We have had to now dispute it through the banks. A lot of drama and effort, not worth it and adds a big dampener to what was a lovely experience initially.

Take it if you can't find anything else! We booked a VW Up from home (via phone call and Viber) and transfered a small deposit just to book the car. No credit card needed, later we paid everything with cash (also the deposit) and got it back. We came at their nut shop and they gave us a Nissan Micra, which was making noises when starting and parking so everyone was looking at us, tires were really old and not good enough for the bad Cretan roads - they even told us that this car is not suitable to go to Balos, i will not even mentiion the inside of the car: dirty, damaged, etc. Thanks god we did not have any serious problems on the road and that the car lasted 5days. They did not even asked us how was the car when we returned it. For the price of 70€ per day, I expect a safe and mantained car, so do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

We rented a fiat panda from motive rentals , the price was affordable and the car got us around the island. Our experience was quite pleasant apart from the fact the car could have been given to us clean.

TO AVOID : I contacted them by email, and we agreed on price and conditions. Motive : "We can offer you a new model 7 seater automatic Citroën Picasso or similar car for 21 days at the total price of only xxxx euro." Under their email we planed to receive a new car model, but we received an old car with 112000 km and with a lot of problems. In the middle of the renting period the air-conditioner stop to work, and then we had two days without the air conditioner, moreover I needed to spend two hours to repair the air conditioner in a garage. The last rental day the car stopped on the highway, and the police stops me. Waiting for them to come. I ask them to offer us a voucher , but answer was : " Good morning, Your request has been rejected. Best Regards -- Motive Rental " without any apologies of any form , it explain all on their attitude!!
