I would like to share with you my deep anger about my latest rental with Europcar's local partner "MATHA" on the island of Naxos in Greece.

 

I have been a loyal EUROPCAR customer for my travels outside Paris for more than 10 years and this is the first time that I have been confronted with such a situation and with people of such bad faith.

 

 

 

I have booked a vehicle (Nissan Micra) for the week of August 13 on the island of Naxos in Greece. To my great surprise, I was asked for a cash deposit of €868 with my credit card, whereas on my reservation contract, it was explicitly mentioned that this amount would be limited to €233.

 

The person at the reception explained to me that this amount corresponded to the amount of the maximum coverage in the event of damage and that I had no choice if I wanted to recover my vehicle. It seems inconceivable to me and moreover scandalous that once on site this partner did not respect the contract that I had previously validated with EUROPCAR when I made my reservation. The MATHA company decided unilaterally to modify the terms of my contract without informing me of it before my arrival and by putting in front of the fait accompli.

 

I would point out that I had made a similar rental a week earlier with EUROPCAR on the neighboring island of Paros and that I had never been asked for such a sum for this pre-authorization. So I accepted this request in spite of myself, knowing that my wife and children were waiting for me in the oppressive heat at the port of Naxos.

 

At the time of check-in, I was surprised by the zeal of the employee who took pictures of the vehicle from all possible angles for a good 10 minutes. In normal times, rental companies obviously do a full tour of the car, mentioning the few bumps or scratches if they exist, but it never lasts more than 2 minutes.

 

During this rental week I suffered a hitch on the rear bumper of my vehicle in a parking lot in our absence. I had not even noticed this minor impact until the vehicle was handed over and the MATHA employees carefully inspected it.

 

During the restitution at MATHA on August 20, this slight scratch was obviously noted and I was debited in the wake of an exorbitant amount, without even being able to oppose it (706€).

 

 

 

I asked for explanations from the manager who told me that this price was that of replacing the entire bumper.

 

At first I thought it was a bad joke: how could he justify the change of an entire part for a simple scratch on a bumper, and which moreover was not my doing?

 

 

 

I am convinced that this bumper will never be replaced and that this is a pure and simple abuse of this agency to inflate its turnover!

 

 

 

Clearly the policy of MATHA (which acts under the name of EUROPCAR) is to force customers to pay a maximum deposit on the day of delivery of the vehicle. And at the slightest hitch during its return, it pretends to have to completely change the parts by charging the high price by hiding behind their "DAT" application which supposedly assesses the price of the damage.

 

 

 

It's simply outrageous as a process!

 

 

 

So I spent for this week's rental nearly €1300 in total for a Nissan Micra (€583 for the rental + €706 to change this bumper), it's INADMISSIBLE!

 

 

 

In conclusion, I find this situation simply shameful and strongly advise you to AVOID THIS AGENCY!!

I paid for the car, got the email, and then the reservation was cancelled at the last moment (2h before us arriving) leaving us without a car on an island on which it is extremely difficult to find another car on such a short notice

As another user mentioned in his/her review a couple of weeks ago, I had the same experience with booking and paying for the car, but after trying to contact them to see if everything is OK with my booking (as the booking email mentioned that they will contact me to confirm my reservation), after 4 days they informed me that my reservation is cancelled and that "of course there is no availability this time of the year...". The thing is that before booking online, I called them and asked if there is availability and they told me yes, but you will have to make the booking online. In addition, whatever I tried to ask them over the phone, the answer was always the same: "Whatever you see online on our website". I understand that maybe this is the way they work, with customers paying and then they get informed whether there is availability or not. But, I had already contacted them and they told me yes there is availability and you can proceed with the booking online and also I was the one trying to contact them and clarify if my booking is confirmed or not. If I hadn't seen the other review saying that they cancelled the booking 2 hours before the date/time of arrival, maybe the same would have happened to me. As I mentioned to them, I remain at their disposal for any clarification and if something I mentioned is not accurate I would like them to contact me and I am willing to discuss it.

Watch out, criminals. They charged me 450 euros for a small scratch, even though the car was already full of scratches when I got it and had a flat tire. I doubt, that they will ever repair the car. Watch out, don't rent there. I would rate the company with zero stars, but I have to give one

They were difficult to found because they had just move place. They are now locate in Grotta. Their rates are similar to any other car rental company but we met friendly people, got a brand new car and we were offered an upgraded category They also arranged the transfer to the ferry for us. No problem, no worry, the perfect way to visit Naxos.

We had trouble finding the company office since we booked via Europcar and the company name was different but they came to pick us up where we were. They also came to our hotel to pick up the car at the end of our trip which was convenient. The car was great and it was quick and easy to rent and drop off the car. Price was also very good.

Attention, attention! This is a huge scam! After returning our car they charged 480€ for two little scratches just at the surface. The car was already full of scratches from the beginning and a screw sticked in one of the tires. I guess they will never ever repair the scratch - like all the other ones... In the future i will be more careful where to rent my car.... For this price i could have gotten a nice Cabrio from a better renting company... thanks for nothing

Great and smooth experience. I rented a Nissan Micro from Adriana who was super friendly and helpful. She processed everything in just a few minutes and I was given the key with a smile. The car was in excellent condition and I was able to drop it off near the port with no problem at all. Thanks to the team! I def recommend renting a car with them when you are in Naxos !
