In the picturesque area of Plaka, just a few meters from the well-known steps of Monsikleus, at the intersection of Erechtheos and Erotokritou Streets, it is located in a beautifully landscaped neoclassical, the historic restaurant “Old Fish Tavern” since 1898. A point of reference for those who love good Greek cuisine.
When in the early 1950s, Rex Warner (author, translator, director of the British Institute in Athens) referred to his book Views of Attica and its surroundings, to then-owner George Psara, his delicious retsina and his traditional Greek. dishes, personalities from around the world, such as Lawrence Olivier and Vivian Lee, Margot Fontaine, Graham Greens, Melina Mercouri, Manos Hadjidakis, etc., enjoyed the hospitality and quality that only “The Tavern Fisherman ‘can offer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good food great atmosphere in a great location. Service a little erratic but this is Greece and thet were busy so adds to the charm....if you let it. Worth a visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ As soon as you sit they bring you a big bottle of water and open it so in case you dont want to pay for it tell them in advance as they seem to be desperate to sell those bottles.. they charge as well for the bread and olives per amount of persons so make sure not to touch it in case you are not into it cause it goes directly on the bill without hesitation..
The food was not bad and the area/ambiance is very nice. Prices are ok.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice tavern just below the Acropolis. I got a table without reservation, but it's recommended to call ahead. The food was delicious and there was nice outdoor seating. The appetizer of feta in philo dough with honey was amazing

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice atmosphere. We were able to look at the menu and not feel like we were being pushed into a meal. Ask for a rooftop table, some of the seats have awnings from the sun and the views are incredible. Family of 4 with two appetizers, water, and a glass of wine was 77 Euro.

Waiter open bottle of water without asking, and then you need to pay 2€ for it, so be careful)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Many people recommended it, but frankly speaking you can find the same quality food for a more affordable price on other places in Athens. The service is also not the most friendly one. On the positive side, the restaurant is placed in the very nice and charming neighbourhood.

Touristic place but the quality of the food was very good.
Staff friendly and nice help to have a very nice evening.
The house wine was very good.

We dined here on our first night in Athens and felt like it was a restaurant you see in the movies! It was a perfect first night in Greece with tasty traditional Greek food and a lovely ambiance!
