Stamatopoulos traditional tavern was established in 1882 when grandfather Stamatopoulos opened a grocery store where they also served wine. It has been operating as a regular tavern ever since 1965.

Some of the best tasting food during our trip. The Greek salad is fresh and delicious. It is less touristy than many restaurants in Athens and has a more traditional Greek feel.

It’s so good, that I’m half way through my meal, and I’ve stopped eating to write about it. The house white is bloody good for the price, and we tend to stick with a shared Greek salad for a starter (I guess just a salad when in Greece?). Both pretty good, but when the mains arrived, it tipped the balance. A couple of the specials arrived, and I swear the missus was close to an orgasm. 5 stars, and I know I’m getting some tonight. Coming again tomorrow.

Come early and order an assortment of dishes to share throughout the evening. As a born in Greece and cook Greek at home person, I can verify that everything is authentic. Prices, very reasonable. Finish with a Greek coffee (metrio sweet) and take a walk around Plaka afterwards. If you're looking for traditional Greek food with courteous wait staff and a bit of live Greek music, try this out. You cannot be disappointed.

After 7:30 they have live music with was super fun. At one point we asked the singer if he know any Turkish song and he told us he was born in Istanbul and start singing turkish song, he was polite:) Prices are really cheap, food taste amazing. Especially fried calamari was one of the best I have ever had. We had Greek salad, fried calamari, levrek, and revani dessert.I strongly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice meal with live music.
G	Gary on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice venue to eat, just off of Plaka. The food was tasty and it had plenty of drink options. When we visited, it felt like the menu was very limited. They had run out of a number of traditional Greek dishes (e.g. gyros and souvlaki were both off the menu) and it felt quite expensive for what was on offer. It can also get quite busy and noisy in and around the restaurant.
