★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wunderschön thront der Turm zwischen zwei buchten. Man kann bis zu einer Nähe gelegenen Kirche auf befestigten Straßen in die Nähe kommen. ABER: der Weg direkt dorthin existiert nicht. Viele Dornen und Gestrüpp. Nur mit langen Hosen und geschlossen Schuhen empfehlenswert. Wir haben es aufgrund der Gegebenheiten leider nicht zum Turm geschafft ( und wegen einer riesigen Spinne ;-))
The tower towers beautifully between two bays. One can get close to a nearby church on paved roads. BUT: there is no direct way to get there. Lots of thorns and scrub. Only recommended with long pants and closed shoes. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the tower due to the circumstances (and because of a huge spider ;-))

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Grigorakakis (or Harakas) tower is something of a landmark in the extreme south of the Mani, despite there being entire villages of tower houses dotted through the landscape. It is perched alone on top of a small hill, just where the the bays of Marmaris and Porto Kayio each take a bite out of the land and reduce the width of the peninsula to a mere 400 metres. The tower has (or had, before it fell into ruin) commanding views over both bays, and must have been an impressive and effective fortification and look-out point. It isn't easy to get up close (you approach from the south, having followed a slip-road off the Porto Kayio turning up to a small church and cemetery) and then pick your way through low scrub, but the tower is probably not safe anyway - the low buildings around it have all collapsed.
