★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Writing a review for a hotel we weren't able to stay at! With the pandemic impacting our travel plans, the Abaton staff were always helpful and communicative. We even got our refund in a timely manner without having to follow up with them about it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I spent our Honeymoon in Abaton. We really enjoyed our stay ,money well spent.
The staff is really nice and helpful, the resort is clean in and out. The buffet restaurant offers a large choice and food is delicious. If you are looking for a calm and relaxing place to stay, this is the place
We will definitely be going again !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent location, amazing interior design, very good service. Half-board option is good but food highly repetitive, high standard but not exceptional, and alternative restaurants very pricey (even for what you get). We stayed two nights and I think that was the perfect — another night and I think I’d been a bit bored by the same food every day. Disappointed by the drinks overall: coffee was mediocre at best and cocktails were not great. Wines in contrast were great, they have a good selection. Sometimes it felt a bit weird that they charge you extra for certain sun beds, food in the non-buffet restaurants, and charge high prices for everything else. The rooms are very nice, the views could be more spectacular. Nice small shopping options. Villages around the hotel are extremely touristy and not really worth visiting I’d say. You’re not affected by the floods of tourists if you don’t leave the hotel. You can reach the hotel easily with public buses, the bus stop (stop 25) is 5min walking distance. Bus gets you directly to the airport or Heraklion city. Would come again, but not to stay much longer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is stunning and perfectly maintained.
The design is extraordinary.
The staff is very nice and the service is very good.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean but, but I would prefer the shower and sink to be in a closed room.
The breakfast is outstanding. A big variety of food and all fresh and good.
My only disappointment was about extra payment for facilities that are in public areas.
For example the open bungalows on the beach. We were seating there and were approached to pay 75 euros. They said the bungalows are for free only for the villas.
Another example are the sun beds inside the pool. You see they are available, you sit and then they approach you and ask for 150 euros per day.
This gives a very uncomfortable feeling, especially since there were not enough "regular" sun beds in the pool for all the guests.
An additional problem was the hotel did not deal with guests playing their own music full volume in the pool area. They should not leave it to the gusts to "fight" for their quiet time.
The overall experience is very nice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Certainly a 5 star experience, but with some minor improvements needed to make it “luxury”.
We definitely loved the location, decorations and efforts put in a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel offers various sitting locations to relax either at the pool, closer to the sea on a “proxy-private-beach” and around the gardens. The variety of restaurants / bars on the resort is an absolute plus and the rooms are charming and welcoming.
One could argue that the price of the hotel and the restaurants is a bit overestimated especially when it comes to details:
- rooms aren’t necessarily soundproof
- clear lights in the room even at night (security lights)
Note also that the population of the hotel is quiet “bling bling” and might be a bit annoying and disrespectful some time. Don’t forget that we are all there to enjoy some peaceful holidays far from stress!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a lovely holiday at the Abaton hotel,
We stayed half board and because we had a young toddler we ate only in the buffet restaurant, as the other restaurants are expensive and do not have any child friendly menus. However, the buffet restaurant is very well catered for and the desserts are amazing.
Overall excellent hotel, the service is a little hit and miss in the hotel, when we first arrived it wasn’t great… Saturday, but when the managers arrived on Monday morning it got a lot better! It’s very inconsistent.. for example some days towels are placed on the loungers other days totally forgotten about, some days they would replace things in the mini bar other days not, some days the cleaning of the rooms was amazing, others it’s was okay! One lady in the shop lovely, another older one very rude.
If you are going with a young child or baby which lots of couples had, it definitely isn’t child friendly really, rooms are marble tiles with no rugs so every time they get wet the child slips over, stairs are very steep in rooms with no offer of a safety gates even a flexy one so had to barricade them with the foot stool. There are no steps down to the beach coves so it’s really hard to get down to the beach. There is literally nothing to do for children, which is fine in a five star hotel but they have so many unused areas a room with a child’s table and some activities wouldn’t go amiss!
The TV has just news channels… which it would be wonderful if you could connect to Netflix or something.
We stayed in a sea view room without a pool because worried about safety with a little one.
There is literally nothing to do in the evening… after dinner except sit in the bar and buy very expensive drinks! I’m not sure whether this is a covid thing.. but they have a grand piano at the bar.. never played… they have amphitheatre.. never used!
Overall I know it sounds like a lot of moans but it really is a lovely hotel, staff are friendly, service is okay but for children not great! Couples only… perfect place to stay!
