★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After the Gorge of Samaria, Imbros Gorge is the second most popular gorge for hikers in Crete. With a walking distance of approximately 8 kilometers and a total descent of about 600 meters, the gorge is also appropriate for children. A normal hike through the gorge takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Even though the Imbros Gorge is smaller and not as steep as the Gorge of Samaria, the landscape in and around the gorge is still impressive and also consists of steep cliffs and narrow passages - in fact, it is no wider than 1.6 meters at one point. Also, this gorge is easier to access as hikers can easily start in Impros and walk down to Komitades. This is also the suggested way to hike through Imbros Gorge. The gorge is open all year round; the entrance fee as of summer 2019 is 2,50 Euros per person. Hikers can find several cafés and taverns both in Impros and Komitades. Although the path is generally not too steep or difficult, I would recommend good running shoes as the largest part of the way is covered with gravel. Overall, the Imbros Gorge is a great alternative to the Gorge of Samaria and just as impressive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Imbros Gorge easiest we have done in Crete!! Samaria and Irini are a little more tricky!! Taverns at the end is where taxis back to Imbros are if you start there but would also be easy other way round you would have to ring a taxi from Imbros village. Just a tip when you enter Imbros you see loads of signs saying 'free parking, Start of Gorge the start is at the far end of the village down a road to the pebble start BUT if you keep going through the village you come to the MAIN START!! It's a big school like building with a big parking area opposite! It has a Tavena and a small steep path to the payment but (€2.50pp). Also we got the taxi back which was a crewman pickup and my son and I were in the back!!! ALL the taxis back up to Imbros should be open topped the view as you climb up the 'alpine type new road out is spectacular!! There are more taverns further down as the path meets the road nearer Sfakia but the taxi guys have craftily cashed in on the tired thirsty walkers!! Great business plan!! We had a beer and waited for more walkers to land then paid €5 each for the trip back which takes a good 20 mins!! Had a meal on Imbros and it was excellent followed by free flowing free Raki and local fruits!! Great day out!! Took us about 2hrs 30mins to walk it. And about 1hr by car to Imbros from Our Villa in Stalls.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The entrance of the gorge is surounded by cafés that offer free parking (must consume stgh at least the way back).
Start early, like 8am. the path will be free of people, no one in your pictures or in your way. After 10am, the crowds start.
The path is not difficulte, but wear apropriate shoes for hiking, it will prevent you to step wrong and hurt yourself.
It's 8km one way. and if you don't want to go back hiking, there are planty taxis (5€ per person) to take you back to imbros.
Average people take 2h one way. I took 1:30h each way in a good speed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Relatively easy walk for 8km through a beautiful gorge. Trail is very uneven and strewn with rocks so be sure to bring sturdy shoes. A good deal of shade even at mid day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ such a amazing work through this gorge!
we started on the top entrance which was definitely the right decision.
the “path” is entirely made of stones. therefore not the best choice for small children.
nevertheless, is one of the easier gorges to walk through.
one of the reasons - a lot of shadows due to the huge mountains around you and the trees.
starting from the top you need around 2-2,5 hours.
the admission fee is 2,50€
right next to the exit are several taxis waiting for you to get back to your car.
cost: 10€ for each person
