Worth's visiting. You can take a boat either from Plaka with 10 euros or from Elounta with 12 euros aller retour. You can also take a daily cruise from Agios Nikolaos that travels you round Colokytha and Spinalonga. The ticket to enter to Spinalonga costs 8 euros, but there also reduced prices for certain categories.

A must seen place at Crete. Beginning in 1903 all people at Crete which were infected by lepra were deported to that leper colony. In older days it was a Venetian fortress.

An amazing place to visit. Price to go over on boat 10 euros, per person, from Plaka. Then when you get there (5 minutes) it costs 8 euros per person.

Visitors can get to the island by boat. Not too much information on the history of the place available on site. Taking part in a guided tour would probably make sense for historically interested visitors. From Elounda, the transfer - back and forth - by boat costs 12 € per adult. The transfer to the island takes about 20-25 minutes. Then the visitor has 70 minutes time to discover Spinalonga. In order to enter the fortress/island, one needs to pay another 8 € entrance fee. The old village can be visited with a baby buggy. If you want to climb onto the top, you need to leave the cart on the bottom. The paths to the top are stony, but the view from the top of the hill onto the open ocean is great. Coming down, you may want to hit the restrooms near the little tavern on the island, right next to the docks or have a coffee or cool drink there. All in all, it was a nice trip, but it's a tourist attraction, with many people wanting to visit. That's probably why neither the boat personnel, nor the cashier at the entrance, nor the site supervisors even tried to act friendly, very much in contrast to the other experiences I've made with most locals on Crete during my 2 week stay there.

We visited in spring so the place was full of wild flowers and pretty empty. Great experience wondering through the deserted ruins and a lovely boat ride to get there.

A very nice island with lots of history from different periods. Easy to travel to as there are many fairies from different key points at the coast. Highly recommended to read about the place before going there - otherwise it might be "just a normal fortress"...once you know about its history, walking though the little streets and exploring the houses makes for a great history experience. Chose your travel time wisely as tourist crowds arriving with usual boats can.be avoided.

What a stunning place! Steeped in history. Excellent information there so you know what you are seeing. Cute boat ride out there too and very good value entrance price of just €8 and half price for kids over 5. Boat ride is €10 per person. Amazing place with such an interesting history. Beautiful views A must see if you are close by for sure would highly recommend to come and visit to think what people did and thought many years ago!
