G	Greg Slonim on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A fantastic taverna near a beautiful and picturesque gorge in the village of Theriso. Fantastic roast goat. Soft and flavourful. The Staka cheese was a revelation- of course why wouldn’t it be, it is soft cheese-like substance made from got milk fat (a roux). The Cretan salad was great because tomatoes and cucumbers were so fresh and tasty. The mizithra (fresh cheese made with milk and whey from sheep or goats milk) was so delicious. The service was friendly and the waiter was super surprised we ordered Staka, a local specialty. Yes, there are a bunch of wasps there that want to eat your meat. Fear not, for your server will bring a small tray of burning coffee that produces practically odour-free smoke that wards off the wasps. The drive there is super picturesque. While you are there, drive a bit further into the village and see a small stand selling Kopelia honey, an insanely delicious local honey from Crete - they have 4 different honeys there. These guys have been making honey since 1840.

The good was great, especially the Staka, such a nice surprise of flavor from a seemingly simple plate of food. The owner was extremely nice, spoke good English and told us about his local and handmade products. Also great for families, as there is not only a playground out back, but also a paddock with mountain sheep that can be fed by the kids. We had a wonderful meal, definitely recommend this place!
