★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Οι Λέοντες ήταν αφιέρωμα των Ναξίων (περί το 600 πχ.) προς τον Απόλλωνα. 'Ηταν τοποθετημένοι στη μια πλευρά της λεωφόρου που ξεκινούσε από το αρχαϊκό λιμάνι του Σκαρδανά και οδηγούσε στο Ιερό. Το λιοντάρια που βλέπουμε σήμερα στην οδό των Λεόντων είναι απομιμήσεις των πραγματικών, τα οποία φυλάσσονται εντός του Αρχαιολογικού μουσείου. Από τους 16 αρχικούς λέοντες σώθηκαν ολόκληροι ή τμήματά τους εννέα, ενώ ένας από αυτούς ακέφαλος (και με ξένο κεφάλι πλέον), κοσμεί την είσοδο του Ναυστάθμου στην Βενετία, δίπλα στο λιοντάρι της Ιεράς Οδού (που ένωνε την Αθήνα με την Ελευσίνα).
 The Lions were a tribute of the Naxians (around 600 BC) to Apollo. They were located on one side of the boulevard that started from the archaic port of Skardanas and led to the Sanctuary. The lions we see today on Lions Street are imitations of the real ones, which are kept inside the Archaeological Museum. Of the 16 original lions, nine or all of them survived, while one of them, headless (and with a foreign head now), adorns the entrance of the Naval Station in Venice, next to the lion of the Holy Road (which connected Athens with Eleusis).
