Venetikon Studios is situated on top of a slope that overlooks Livadi beach, only a few-minutes-walk from the village of Agios Georgios. The location is perfect, the view cannot be beaten. My husband and I stayed there for six nights. Although the establishment itself is quite nice, the owners were not among the best we have encountered. The family resides in an apartment on the premises and they are quiet and discreet. Dimitris is a smooth-talking man while his wife Maria was snappy. At first, we were shown to a room on the top floor with a balcony. It was spacious and pleasant. The kitchenette was fully equiped and there was even a jar of greek coffee, sugar, salt and pepper which was very convenient. However, the balcony is less than a metre wide so sitting there was quite uncomfortable. If you hang towels and bathing-suits to dry, they obstruct the view and closing the shutters at night involves strategically moving around the chairs and the small table. So the view of the sea can only be enjoyed from the inside of the room and only if there’s nothing on the clothes-line. What’s more the water pressure in the very small shower was low because the shower-head leaked. After spending two days in this room we asked the owner, Dimitris, if he could move us to another room and he said that the next day we could transfer to a room with a veranda. But on the same evening his wife came and said that it wouldn’t be possible. I didn’t make a fuss but when I asked if she happened to have a spare shower-head to replace the leaking one she just laughed at me and said rudely that if we didn’t like it, we could move out. Following her suggestion I made a few calls to other establishments in the island and on the next morning while we were going out to meet with another owner to have a look at another accommodation, Dimitris intercepted us and insisted he show us the ground floor room. It consisted of a bedroom and a kitchen, it could sleep a family, it had the tiniest bathroom I'd ever seen and a garden. He said we could move there if we preferred it to our other room and left us to think about it. At the last minute his wife added, again quite rudely, not to think about it too long. We went to our appointment with the other owner who showed us her room but it was more expensive than Venetikon so we decided to stay in the ground floor room that Dimitris had shown us. Only after we had moved all our stuff from one room to the other did Dimitris say that it would cost us 30€ more on the whole bill for our stay. That garden was the best feature and the reason we stayed. It was very cozy, excellent for relaxing and star gazing. We also enjoyed having regular visits by a couple of cats. On the whole, Venetikon Studios is a good choice as long as you don't require anything additional from the owners.
