★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent authentic Greek food. Delicious, good prices and I recommend this place to visit and enjoy! Meals are about 7€ - 10€ / dish. Housewine was good and only 7 € per liter.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful family restaurant in a small village near Rethymno. Everything we ordered was so good: fried zucchini with cheese, and meatballs in tomato sauce were the standouts. Has a beautiful glassed-in patio with a playground outdoors for children. Real Crete cooking!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is a small front bar and a more restaurant-like area on the back of the building. This part has full windows and is slightly elevated, so there are pleasant views over the surrounding smallholding.
We ate here 3 times on a 2-week holiday in April 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed every meal. There is a regular menu plus daily specials.
I am no expert on Greek cooking (yet -- I am working on it!) but would say it was good traditional dishes; I particularly enjoyed mains of snails one night, and tremendous lamb with bitter greens another time. Char-grilled vegetables were delicious and the 'Veranta salad' has made it hard to enjoy salads since we returned home!
Portions were very generous and you should plan to share each dish between at least two people when making your choices. Prices seemed to be more than reasonable; we paid between 30 and 40 euros for 2 people having starters, mains, sides, and wine, with (in the traditional manner) raki and a small dessert thrown in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of my favourite restaurants in Crete. I would highly recommend Veranta for a truly authentic experience off the tourist trail. A wide range of delicious food at very reasonable (non-tourist) prices. Home cooked traditional Cretan dishes by the owner's mum. The owner is very friendly and helpful with his recommendations. We particularly liked the pork knuckle (better than I've had in Germany!), octopus pasta, snails, lamb with herbs, cuttlefish with spinach, battered mushrooms.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful food! We ordered for delivery and had a great experience dining in person too! Our children loved running around in the play area while we enjoyed our dinner. The food was delicious and Nikos was a wonderful host! My son said the dessert (made by Nikos’ mother) was the best dessert he’s ever had!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Authentic Cretan food at its best. A little neighborhood restaurant that the word has gotten out. Locals and international guests delight in the fresh traditional dishes. You will be shocked at what locals pay for a good meal. All dishes served for sharing. Enjoy.
