★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great, large, semi-sandy beach for swimming in waves. A bit of sea grass and a dubious looking river, but our kids loved the warm water and swimming. We didn’t know you can’t sit in the “blue flag Fodele beach” area unless you are a resident in the resort! A very rude, aggressive man on their staff chased us and our kids off the beach chairs. You then have go and sit on the meagre few other seats far away-clearly a huge downgrade??

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great quiet beach. A lovely tavern called Dolphin provides you with parasols and beach beds so you can drink wine on the beach with some pita and tzatziki watching the sun set over the beautiful beach, including surfers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fodele beach is located 26km northwest of Heraklion and just 3km north of the village Fodele, which is believed to be the birthplace of the painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, widely known as El Greco. The National Road connecting Heraklion and Chania passes beside the beach. It's a nice sandy beach, exposed to north winds.
