★ ★ ★ ★ ★ OMG....!!! I loved this place. Its a long walk/hike so make sure you wear confortable shoes, like hiking shoes or sneakers no sandals. And confortable clothes as well. You need a hat it's super sunny a bottle of water, time and consistency because is a pretty longggg hike/walk. But its amazing ? Samaria Gorge

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Samaria gorge in Western Crete is a must for strong hikers. Note the trail is rocky, I highly recommend hiking poles which will increase your speed. Make sure you're at the coast for the 5.30 ferry to Chora Sfakion. The gorge has beautiful views and running water most of the way down ( in June) with many water crossings. You can fill up water bottles at rest stops but bring snacks for the hike.

Here some tips
1. Wear good shoes I recommend trail shoes
2. Take something to eat there is no store in the complete gorge only at the end.
3. Take a normal drinking bottle but not to much you can refill it often. The water is very clean and delicious.
4. Start early and make only small breaks because otherwise you will get very lazy.
5. Stop if you want to make a picture don’t move because you could fall down.
6. You should be in a good health condition.
7. In case of an emergency contact the next guide on the next breakpoint. There is no reception during this complete trip. They have Walkie-Talkies.
8. Maybe take a small first aid set with you.
9. Don’t forget to take a cap and sunglasses with you.
10. The total time could be between 4 and 7 hours. We took around 3:10hrs but we haven’t made long breaks, only some minutes
11. We have done a guided trip over get your guide because then you don’t have to worry about the transfers to the trail and back to your hotel. The good thing is you get all the information but you don’t have to walk with the complete group.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The location is over crowded, and that was during out of season Corona times!! If you reach the Gorge from agia Roumeli, at the opening of the park, and walk rapidly, it is possible to arrive when there is almost no one there. Afterwards there are hundreds of tourists on their way down. The attraction itself is OK, a beautiful small shady site of water and narrow canyon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Samaria Gorge. An amazing hike that will push you to your limits especially if you have joint issues. The amazing beauty of nature surrounding you is awesome. Its a long 10 mile hike. Bring plenty of water and trail snacks. The gates is the main part of the hike. Its only about 11ft or 3m across.
