Budget - Airport

They may advertise a cheaper price but they will nickel and dime you at every corner with or without fully explaining it up front. Car seat? 5 euro/day (That I knew upfront). Extra driver? 5 euro/day (that they didn’t explain). Also, they offer to fill up the tank for you at a cheaper price...oh that’s nice but here’s the catch: if you return it with 1/4 tank like I did, you still pay for a FULL tank. So even if you return it 3/4 full, you pay for a FULL tank. Maybe it was the language barrier but I didn’t fully understand that till the end when I was finalizing the payment. The car was fine but other rental companies had lower mileage and nicer vehicles.

I was only here to check out the opening hours. Sadly, they are not open after midnight - which can be a bit frustrating when you arrive to an airport in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. Which I did when I arrived here. With better opening hours you could have rented me a car, Budget ;)

Budget truly surprised me positively. No waiting lines at Chania: neither to register, nor to get the car nor to return it. The staff was extremely friendly and efficient. The car, a Suzuki Ignis, only had 6000km and was in great condition. The price/performance ratio is very good. * Best car rental experience ever *

Staff friendly enough, car was an upgrade to what I'd booked online. Told the lady I'd already taken out third party insurance policy to which she was fine with (often rental companies try to advise you that you need their insurance to rip you off) Process was nice and easy to give back the car, a chap checked it over, took him about a minute.. Smooth, would recommend.

Person (woman) working on 21st of August, 2021, was extremely rude. I cancelled my booking and booked with another company, where the attendants were way more polite.

Booked a little Renault TwinGo for 9 days at a good price. Airport counter was not too busy and we were in the car within about 20mins. Did not opt for any extras or full insurance. Car was almost new with ~25k on the odo and was pretty perfect for the Cretan roads. Thankfully had no issues and drop off was also a breeze. There are 3 or 4 gas stations on the road to the airport. Overall was very happy.

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM BUDGET Chania! They give your car away to someone else without informing you and lie about a company policy that they didn’t tell us about beforehand. We subsequently called Budget U.K. who informed us that company policy is the ALWAYS call the customer first before cancelling the car rental. We had originally rented a car rental from them for 5 days during our holiday in Crete, thinking Budget is an international car rental brand we had used in many of our travels in different countries over the years. We booked the car for 12pm, given I am pregnant I wasn’t feeling well so we arrived at 2pm to pick up the car. They then told us they gave our car to someone else as we were late and it’s our responsibility to show up on time, they didn’t even try to call us or cared why we were delayed. When asked they said they have a 1-2hr car pick up policy, which is ironic as it’s a rental at the airport and flight delays are common. They couldn’t show us their company policy stating this, and they also didn’t provide us any options for other cars. The customer service lady Ioanna was most UNHELPFUL and told us to call the helpline, she didn’t care or tried to help us find another car. We asked to speak to a supervisor who was apparently not reachable. I have been to Greece many times and she is by far the worst customer service person I have come across, only cared about making more money from someone else she rented our car to. Do not care that we won’t be able to find another car to rent for the rest of our holiday. I don’t know if it’s specific to the Chania Budget brand only or specific to a few individuals working there who didn’t bother to call us to check if we still needed the car, but the unhelpful attitude and dishonesty has given us such a bad experience that we will never rent cars from them again. We strongly advice any tourists not to rent cars from them as they are unprofessional, unhelpful and terrible customer service.

Service 10/10 I booked online for a 3 day excursion, rented an automatic (Toyota Aygo), had no problems with pick up the attendant was very nice. I ended up extending it 3.5 hours because i miscalculated how long it took me to drive back from the other side of the island. The number on the website was this ladies cell phone, she was very happy to help and they were 0 problems about it, no charge. Very nice at drop off. Overall very happy.
